וַיֹּסֶף עוֹד לְדַבֵּר אֵלָיו וַיֹּאמַר אוּלַי יִמָּצְאוּן שָׁם אַרְבָּעִים וַיֹּאמֶר לֹא אֶֽעֱשֶׂה בַּעֲבוּר הָאַרְבָּעִֽים׃

Rursumque locutus est ad eum: Sin autem quadraginta ibi inventi fuerint, quid facies? Ait: Non percutiam propter quadraginta.
Y volvió á hablarle, y dijo: Quizá se hallarán allí cuarenta. Y respondió: No lo haré por amor de los cuarenta.
Once again Abraham spoke to the LORD, “Suppose forty are found there?” He answered, “ On account of the forty, I will not do it.”
